Dear Brother Knights –

Well, the month started off with a bang – our Annual Family Picnic. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be there, but all reports say it was a great time for everyone and even a few sprinkles couldn’t dampen the St. Regis spirit. Thanks to Gerry McMenamin, as always, for being a wonderful acting GK when I’m not around, and thanks to Mark Johnson, Sr., Jimmy Tallman and everyone who helped with set-up, cooking and clean-up.

Our installation of officers – Knights, Columbiettes, and Squires – went off without a hitch and it was great that so many members of the St. Regis family and many dignitaries were able to join us.

Fr. Michael Maffeo and Deacon Mike DeBellis joined us for the annual Mass at the council for our newly-elected officers a couple of weeks later. It’s a great way to start the year of service, and I thank all who attended.

Our Sportsmen’s Club organized a fishing trip, which many people joined and had a great time. Joe Scaramuzzino did a great job setting things up and we are grateful. Next time, I hope to be able to join the fun.

And, yet again, our participation in the Ronkonkoma Street Fair on Sunday, September 6 will be supported by many helping hands (we could always use a few more) to show our community what we’re all about.

And, speaking of fun, we have lots more coming up: The Columbiettes are sponsoring a Karaoke/ Gong Show Night on September 19 and we are having a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament on September 25 to support Club 4651. On the afternoon of September 20, we will gather to thank Colleen Wyman for her service as Madam President at a Testimonial at the council.

That evening, the Commander John J. Shea Assembly of the Fourth Degree will be installing its officers. I am thrilled that our council is such a big supporter of the Fourth Degree and look forward to serving as its Sentinel this coming year. The Fourth Degree is a wonderful organization that I would encourage all Brother Knights to consider. See Tom Fawcett if you’d like to take your Fourth Degree in October.

And please show your support for our newest members by joining us on Wednesday, September 16 for a First Degree. It is the foundation and the building block of our order.

Please keep each other and our council in your prayers.

Joseph DiNero
